Red Wings shake things up

Red WingsThe Weyburn Red Wings roster underwent a major shakeup Thursday afternoon.

Completing two trades, one with the Humboldt Broncos and the other with the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings, the Red Wings shipped out second-leading scorer Kyle Oleniuk (1993) and blueline scoring leader Ryan Cooper (1993).

Oleniuk was sent to Humboldt in exchange for defenceman Cody Pettapiece (1994) while Cooper was sent packing for Dauphin in exchange for forward Brendan McKay (1994) and future considerations.

Both deals were announced via the Weyburn Red Wings Twitterfeed.

Red Wings send Grassl to La Ronge

Ice WolvesThe La Ronge Ice Wolves kept busy on the trade market Monday, acquiring goaltender Luke Grassl (1995) from the Weyburn Red Wings. In exchange, Weyburn receives the rights to defenceman Trenton Zakaluzny (1996) and future considerations.

The deal was originally revealed by Red Wings play-by-play man Tyler Wawryk at 7:51 p.m. last night.

Canada West selection camp roster announced

WJACHockey Canada, in partnership with the CJHL, has released its Canada West selection camp roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior A Challenge to be hosted Nov. 4 to 10 in Yarmouth, N.S.

A total of seven players from the SJHL have been named to the selection camp, which will be hosted Oct. 26 to 30 in Calgary, Alta. at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Trent Cassan, head coach of the Yorkton Terriers, will serve as an assistant coach to head coach Jason McKee (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL).
