Bruins acquire Sagen from Ice Wolves

BruinsThe Estevan Bruins kicked up a little dust as the looming CJHL trade deadline approaches Jan. 10.

Tuesday night Estevan sent defenceman Brett Blatz (1993) and future considerations to the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for forward Michael Sagen (1993).

The deal was announced by the La Ronge Ice Wolves via Twitter at 7:45 p.m. this evening.

Sagen has tallied 13 goals and 28 points in 28 games for the Ice Wolves so far in 2013-14 and immediately adds offense to a Bruins lineup that already features two of the SJHL’s top-five scorers in Austin Daae (23G, 21A) and Tanner Froese (13G, 25A).

Ice WolvesIn Blatz, the Ice Wolves add a serviceable top-six defenceman with more than 130 games of SJHL experience. La Ronge has struggled with the defensive side of the game this season, surrendering a league-high 128 goals against. After getting off to a great start, the Ice Wolves have plummeted in the league and Sherwood Division standings, currently sitting third in the SJHL’s north-most division with a 15-17-2-0 record.

The Bruins next action comes Jan. 8 when they host the Notre Dame Hounds. The La Ronge Ice Wolves are also in action tomorrow as they welcome the surging Battlefords North Stars.
