Canada West selection camp roster announced

WJACHockey Canada, in partnership with the CJHL, has released its Canada West selection camp roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior A Challenge to be hosted Nov. 4 to 10 in Yarmouth, N.S.

A total of seven players from the SJHL have been named to the selection camp, which will be hosted Oct. 26 to 30 in Calgary, Alta. at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Trent Cassan, head coach of the Yorkton Terriers, will serve as an assistant coach to head coach Jason McKee (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL).

Goaltender Rylan Parenteau (Weyburn) along with forwards Kailum Gervais (Yorkton), Owen LaClare (La Ronge), Jake McMillen (Battlefords), T.J. Reeve (Melville), Ian Williams (Notre Dame) and Blake Young (Battlefords) will represent the SJHL at the selection camp.

Canada West will be represented by players from the BCHL, AJHL, SJHL, MJHL and SIJHL.

The team begins action with a pre-tourney exhibition game against Team USA at Digby Arena in Digby, N.S. on Nov. 2 before opening tournament play Nov. 4 against Switzerland.

The selection camp roster for Canada East was announced earlier this week. Canada East selection camp will also take place Oct. 26 to 30 in Oakville, Ont.

The 2013 edition of the World Junior A Challenge is being hosted by the Yarmouth Mariners for the second-consecutive year. In 2012, the United States came home with the gold, while Canada West reeled in silver. Switzerland won bronze.

The championship game will be played Nov. 10 at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth.
