Ice Wolves acquire Johnson from Dauphin

Ice WolvesThe La Ronge Ice Wolves are bringing defenceman Joren Johnson back to the SJHL.

La Ronge has traded blueliner Brett Hope (1993) to the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings in exchange for Johnson (1994) and future considerations.

Johnson started the season with the Battlefords North Stars before he was traded Sept. 30 to Dauphin along with forward Robbie Newton (1993) in exchange for LW/C Alex Bechtold (1994).

The Kindersley Klippers (7-1-0-1) defeated the Battlefords North Stars (4-6-0-0) by a score of 3-0. Marc Dubeau opened the scoring for Kindersley in the first period and set up a second-period marker by newcomer Tristan Sieben. Eric Pouliot sealed the scoring in the third with a power-play marker, deflecting a shot from Colby Daniels.

Canada West selection camp roster announced

WJACHockey Canada, in partnership with the CJHL, has released its Canada West selection camp roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior A Challenge to be hosted Nov. 4 to 10 in Yarmouth, N.S.

A total of seven players from the SJHL have been named to the selection camp, which will be hosted Oct. 26 to 30 in Calgary, Alta. at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Trent Cassan, head coach of the Yorkton Terriers, will serve as an assistant coach to head coach Jason McKee (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL).

North Stars move Betinol; acquire Reich

North StarsThe Battlefords North Stars have traded 1994-born forward Josh Betinol to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL in exchange for future considerations. In a separate move, the North Stars sent future considerations to the Estevan Bruins in exchange for 1993-born forward Taylor Reich.

SJHLOnce again, there were five games on the SJHL slate Saturday night, with Estevan and Melville being the only squads having the night off. The Notre Dame Hounds and Humboldt Broncos were the final two teams to open their season.

Klippers head north for rematch with Battlefords

KlippersThe Kindersley Klippers and Battlefords North Stars will hit the ice tonight at 7:30 for the back-end of their home-and-home series to open the 2013-14 SJHL regular season.

The Klippers are expected to make a couple minor changes to the lineup heading into tonight’s game. RW Brandon Lauder is expected to be replaced by Dylan Tuskey while goaltender Alex Bitsakis will take the place of Evan Weninger on the bench. Tyrell King, who stopped 27 of 28 shots to earn the victory last night, will once again get the start in net for Kindersley.
