Bruins acquire Sagen from Ice Wolves

BruinsThe Estevan Bruins kicked up a little dust as the looming CJHL trade deadline approaches Jan. 10. 

Tuesday night Estevan sent defenceman Brett Blatz (1993) and future considerations to the La Ronge Ice Wolves in exchange for forward Michael Sagen (1993). 

The deal was announced by the La Ronge Ice Wolves via Twitter at 7:45 p.m. this evening.

Red Wings send Grassl to La Ronge

Ice WolvesThe La Ronge Ice Wolves kept busy on the trade market Monday, acquiring goaltender Luke Grassl (1995) from the Weyburn Red Wings. In exchange, Weyburn receives the rights to defenceman Trenton Zakaluzny (1996) and future considerations.

The deal was originally revealed by Red Wings play-by-play man Tyler Wawryk at 7:51 p.m. last night.

Ice Wolves acquire Johnson from Dauphin

Ice WolvesThe La Ronge Ice Wolves are bringing defenceman Joren Johnson back to the SJHL.

La Ronge has traded blueliner Brett Hope (1993) to the MJHL’s Dauphin Kings in exchange for Johnson (1994) and future considerations.

Johnson started the season with the Battlefords North Stars before he was traded Sept. 30 to Dauphin along with forward Robbie Newton (1993) in exchange for LW/C Alex Bechtold (1994).

Canada West selection camp roster announced

WJACHockey Canada, in partnership with the CJHL, has released its Canada West selection camp roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior A Challenge to be hosted Nov. 4 to 10 in Yarmouth, N.S.

A total of seven players from the SJHL have been named to the selection camp, which will be hosted Oct. 26 to 30 in Calgary, Alta. at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

Trent Cassan, head coach of the Yorkton Terriers, will serve as an assistant coach to head coach Jason McKee (Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL).

Klippers cut down Ice Wolves

Klippers logoThe Kindersley Klippers improved their record to 5-1-0 in this early SJHL season with a 5-3 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.  The Klippers entered play against the number-two ranked Ice Wolves who were coming off an 8-4 victory versus Weyburn on Thursday night and were the only remaining undefeated team in the league.
