The Weyburn Red Wings have acquired 18-year-old goaltender Tanner Burgardt from the BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors in exchange for future considerations.
The Warriors announced the deal via their website Wednesday evening.
Burgardt, a native of Kerrobert, Sask., was in his first year with the Warriors after spending the past two seasons with the Prince Albert Mintos (midget AAA). Burgardt was a second-team all-star last season after winning the award as the top goaltender in Saskatchewan Midget-AAA during the 2011-12 season. He was drafted by the Regina Pats 115th overall in the 2010 WHL bantam draft.
Rookie goaltender Rylan Parenteau has carried the lion’s share of the work so far in 2013-14, dressing for seven games, posting a 3-4-0 record with a 2.42 goals-against average and 0.937 save percentage. Parenteau was named SJHL rookie of the week for the period ending Sept. 29.
Weyburn defeated Melfort 3-2 Wednesday evening and will travel to La Ronge to take on the Ice Wolves Thursday night.
