Broncos acquire Kapelke

BroncosThe Humboldt Broncos have acquired defenceman Anthony Kapelke (1995) from the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders in exchange for forward Colten Meaver (1993)

The deal was first posted via the AJHL transaction report Nov. 17.

The 20-year-old Meaver had played in two games with the Broncos following his acquisition from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons Nov. 12. Meaver went scoreless in his short stint in Humboldt after putting up four goals and seven points with Fort McMurray to start the season.

The native of Edmonton was a seventh-round draft pick of the Red Deer Rebels back in 2008.

Kapelke, an 18-year-old native of Edmonton, started the season with the Drayton Valley Thunder, scoring three points through 10 games before being traded to the Crusaders Oct. 11 in exchange for defenceman Connor Vermueulen (1996). Kapelke would then dress for nine games in Sherwood Park. The 5-foot-11, 202-pound defenceman has racked up 54 PIMs in 19 AJHL games this season.

The Broncos next action comes tomorrow evening as they play host to the La Ronge Ice Wolves at 7 p.m.
