The La Ronge Ice Wolves have traded 1994-born centre Jason Berube to the Dauphin Kings of the MJHL in exchange for 1993-born centre Dayton Reinboldt. The Ice Wolves announced the deal via Twitter just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Berube dressed for five games with the Ice Wolves this season, scoring one goal. The native of Port-Cartier, Que. was in his second season with the club, having posted eight goals and 17 points in 2012-13.
Reinboldt returns to the SJHL after kick-starting his junior-A career with the Melville Millionaires in 2010-11. The native of Fox Valley, Sask. suited up for nine games that season, tallying one goal and one assist.
Since then, Reinboldt split time between the AJHL and MJHL.
“I had the opportunity to coach against (Reinboldt) in the AJHL and believe he can be a quality player in our league while adding some valuable veteran experience to our lineup,” wrote Ice Wolves head coach/general manager Shawn Martin via email.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound centreman registered his best junior-A season in 2011-12 while with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL. In 60 games, Reinboldt tossed up 23 goals and 31 assists for 54 points.
Last year the forward’s production regressed as he split the season between the Crusaders and Dauphin Kings. The Kings acquired Reinboldt in November 2012 and he notched 13 goals and 22 points through 40 games to finish the season. This came following a three-goal, 10-point start to the year in 22 games with Sherwood Park.
Reinboldt has dressed for seven game sin 2013-14, notching three goals and one assist.
In 138 career Canadian junior-A games, Reinboldt has netted 43 goals and 49 assists for 92 points.
The Ice Wolves, who started the season as one of the hottest teams in the SJHL, have dropped two of their last three games. The Kindersley Klippers topped La Ronge 5-3 on Saturday to hand La Ronge its first loss of the season. The Ice Wolves bounced back for a 3-2 win in Humboldt Tuesday before dropping Wednesday’s game against the Notre Dame Hounds by a final score of 4-3.
The Ice Wolves will be back in action Friday as they visit the Melville Millionaires.
