La Ronge & Neepawa exchange forwards

Ice WolvesThe La Ronge Ice Wolves have traded 1993-born forward Jaret Smith to the MJHL’s Neepawa Natives in exchange for 1995-born forward Rhett Law.

The Ice Wolves announced the deal via a newly minted Twitter account Thursday afternoon just past 4:30 p.m.

Law, who has yet to dress for a game in 2013-14, registered three goals and eight points in 50 career games with Neepawa.

Smith, a native of Fort McMurray, Alta., was in his first year in the SJHL. In five games with the Ice Wolves, he was blanked on the score sheet.

Smith has bounced all over Canadian junior ‘A’ since 2011, having spent time in the BCHL (Powell River, 2012-13), AJHL (Fort McMurray, 2011-12), CCHL (Kemptville, 2012-13) and OJHL (Kingston, 2011-12). Neepawa lands as his sixth junior ‘A’ team since 2011-12.

La Ronge hosts the Weyburn Red Wings tonight (WRW lead 3-1 with approx. 7:30 remaining in the second period) before welcoming the Kindersley Klippers to town tomorrow night.
