Mustangs move Maraschiello & Hicks to Winkler

MustangsThe Melfort Mustangs have traded 1993-born goaltender Mitch Maraschiello and 1995-born defenceman Zak Hicks to the Winkler Flyers of the MJHL in exchange for future considerations.

UPDATE (1:41 p.m.): The MJHL is reporting the Mustangs will also receive the playing rights to 19-year-old defenceman Dylan Kuczek as a part of this transaction.

Maraschiello, a native of Kenmore, N.Y., had suited up in three games for the Mustangs so far this season, registering a record of 1-2-0 with a 2.61 goals-against average (GAA) and 0.925 save percentage (SP). The 6-foot, 179-pound netminder was originally acquired from the AJHL’s Drayton Valley Thunder prior to the start of the 2013-14 season. In 30 games with the Thunder last year, Maraschiello was 15-9-5 with a 2.81 GAA and 0.909 SP.

Hicks, a 6-foot-1 native of Boissevain, Man. spent last season with the Southwest Cougars of the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League (MMHL) tallying 10 goals and 32 points in 44 games. Hicks played two games for the Mustangs this season, registering no points.

The trade was announced via the Mustangs Facebook page earlier this morning.
