The Battlefords North Stars have traded 1994-born forward Josh Betinol to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL in exchange for future considerations. In a separate move, the North Stars sent future considerations to the Estevan Bruins in exchange for 1993-born forward Taylor Reich.
According to an SJHL hockey operations staff speaking on condition of anonymity, it is believed Betinol requested a trade out of Battlefords. The North Stars granted his request in shipping him to the BCHL’s Vernon Vipers.
Betinol was expected to be a dangerous threat for the North Stars this season. In 51 games last season, the 5-foot-7, 150-pound centre posted 13 goals and 32 points. This season he was unable to hit the score sheet through two games as the North Stars opened their season 1-4-0.
To help offset the void left by Betinol, the North Stars went out and picked up 20-year-old forward Taylor Reich from the Estevan Bruins.
Reich spent the past two seasons with the Bruins, tallying 20 goals and 43 points through 99 career games in Estevan. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward will add more experience to a veteran group of forwards in Battlefords.
The North Stars will be back in action tonight at 7:30 p.m when they visit the Yorkton Terriers.
